South Puget Sound is a region of southwest Washington that includes Pierce, Thurston and parts of King counties. Its largest cities include Tacoma – the seat of Pierce County, with about 200,000 residents – and state capitol, Olympia.

The area combines the best aspects of urban living – fine dining, plentiful shopping, thriving arts and entertainment scenes – with scenic vistas that include Mount Rainier, the Olympic National Forest, views of orcas and humpback whales traversing through Commencement Bay. Outdoors enthusiasts are never far away from great hikes, places to tube and kayak and some of the most ideal snowboarding conditions on the planet.

The climate is mild, with temperatures remaining between 35 and 75 degrees most of the year. While there is some truth to that stereotype about the rainy Northwest, the accumulation of precipitation is much lower than many parts of the country (about 37 inches a year in nearby Seattle versus 62 in soggy New Orleans) and a little drizzle sure beats the sub-zero winters and muggy, twister-plagued summers you'll find elsewhere. So grab your Northface jackets and come enjoy one of the most liveable regions in the country!
